I got word today that a former instructor was killed trying to help a wounded animal off the highway. He was also a friend. He had the ability to befriend you outside the classroom. Though I did not have his class this semester, he made me welcome to view a film that I had missed in one of my classes. A friend away from the campus, he was always willing to exchange ideas over a cold beer. I will miss his friendly smile. I cannot find the words to express the loss. I can only hope that everyone takes the time to visit with friends while they can.
